4 OCTOBER 2015: TWENTY- THREE YEARS OF PEACE IN MOZAMBIQUE

The country celebrates this Sunday,
twenty three years of the signature of the General Agreement of Rome, which
ended sixteen years of civil war in
Mozambique .Several political, sporting
and cultural events will take place across the country, especially the
ceremony of wreath laying at the
Plaza of the Mozambican Heroes in
Maputo. The central ceremonies of Day of peace will be directed by the President,Filip Nyusi. However, the Sant'Egidio community and the Islamic Council of Mozambique in the Niassa appeal to the understanding between the government and Renamo towards the achievement of effective peace in the country. The will was expressed Saturday in a linear program that
addressed on the gains and challenges
of maintaining and consolidating peace in the country. Omar Abdala, the Islamic Council of Mozambique in Niassa, and Adolfo Viliquiua the Community of Sant'Egidio, said it is necessary to cultivate a deep dialogue and that violence should not remain a political instrument in the country. Our sources acknowledged that the country recorded remarkable progress during the twenty-three years of peace.
