Poaching wars: IVORY SEIZED IN CABO DELGADO

The Mozambican Police (PRM) seized on Tuesday nine ivory tips in the northern province of Cabo Delgado,having arrested two people in connection with the case.Quoted on Saturday by the private television station STV, the spokesman for PRM in Cabo Delgado, Malva Brito explained that the tusks were seized in the Josina Machel neighborhood,when the two suspects tried marketing them.''Against this case, we would like to thank the population by the level of confidence they had to denounce the existence of these tusks of ivory'', said Brito to the press,on Friday,pointing out that it is the first case there of detention involving ivory this year.It is assumed that the tusks are from the district of Marrupa,Niassa province.One of the detained citizens, identified by the name of Ali Saide, confessed his involvement and reveals having acquired the nine ivory horns priced at 160 000 meticais (one dollar equals about 42.7259 MZN(43 meticais), current exchange rate).In July of the current year the Mozambican authorities incinerated in Maputo, more than two tons of ivory and Rhino horns seized at different times across the country.At the time the Minister of Land, Environment and Rural Development, Celso Korea, considered the incineration of those horns and ivory as a demonstration to society and the world the determination and commitment of the Government to combat game poaching.
