Gaza and Inhambane provinces are provinces with fewer public defenders

The provinces of Gaza and Inhambane
are those with fewer public defenders
nationwide. In both provinces, the
actual technicians of the Institute for
Legal Assistance and Representation
(IPAJ) existing is less than six, to assist a population of over one million
inhabitants. It technicians hired by the
state to provide legal assistance to
citizens who do not have the financial
ability to afford a lawyer. The
information was given yesterday on the sidelines of the First Conference on
Provision of Access to Justice and Law in
Mozambique, which brought together
lawyers, civil society and several people,
especially the former President, Joaquim
Chissano. The city of Maputo and province, Sofala and Manica are the provinces
with the highest number of public defenders nationwide.
In these, the average public defenders is
about 15, to serve existing cases, for example in Maputo, where each district has at least
one public defender.
