Politicians and academics want democracy at the service of the people

Academics, politicians and civil
society organizations advocate
a profound reflection on the
Mozambican democratic
model, to introduce reforms
that can contribute to greater inclusion and prevention of
recurrent post-election
tensions. This was the highlight
note of an organized
roundtable,on Thursday, by the
Democracy and Development Studies Center (CEDE), which
had as panelists Party leader
for Democracy and
Development (PDD), Raul
Domingos; President of the
Municipal Council of Quelimane, Manuel de Araújo;
and academic and member of
Parliament, Eduardo
Namburete. The meeting
aimed to discuss the Statute of
the Opposition Leader, approved in December last
year by Parliament, but
questions about the
Mozambican democracy,
considered atypical by the
panelists, ended up polarizing the debate.
